Create Your Environment

Create your environment-2.png

It can be difficult to stay motivated all of the time, particularly if you’re not getting enough support. With that in mind, this week’s blog post is about keeping your enthusiasm up by surrounding yourself with inspiring people who are also striving to achieve a goal. This doesn’t mean that you can’t see certain people if they don’t have any goals, it’s just that you decide not to spend the majority of your time with them.

Why is this important?

We are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with.
— Jim Rohn

Mr. Rohn makes a strong point. The reality is that we spend a lot of time comparing ourselves to people around us, therefore, if we surround ourselves with high-achievers it’s going to make us want to be more like them. So if you can find environments that motivate and energise you - that’s perfect! Make that a priority!

Well, what happens if you can’t surround yourself with the right people? It may not be possible because of your current situation, time limits, financial limits etc… but you can still:

1. Watch videos online from some of your heroes.

If you watch and listen to them enough, you may find that you start think and speak like them. That will help to create the attitude that you need to strive. Here are a couple of my favourites… you’ll notice that most of them are actors - that’s because I find these actors very inspirational!

Between goals and achievement, are discipline and consistency.
— Denzel Washington
Ask yourself ‘who do you want to be, not what, but who?’
— Arnold Schwarzenegger
I’ve never really viewed myself as particularly talented. Where I excel is ridiculous, sickening work ethic.
— Will Smith, Actor
It ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit... and keep moving forward!
— Sylvester Stallone

2. Get some books, magazine, or articles that inspire you.

Read everything you can about what your heroes did and how they did it. It will be educational in so far as it will show you the path they took and mistakes they made. And it will be motivational because it will show you that it can be done!

3. Find clubs or groups that let you express your passion.

Or any other place where you can surround yourself with others who are driven to reach their goals. You may find that you inspire each other and help each other grow, and that can only be a good thing.

Of course, those tips are not for everyone - only those who are interested in moving forward.

Thanks for reading and I hope you found this post useful. Ronan.
